NOTE: This is NOT a KPM brand Plaque. Instead I am offering a similar style vintage Kaestner Saxonia tile wall plaque. Kaestner Saxonia was a well known German producer of items similar to KPM. This is a large heavy plaque handsomely decorated showing an elderly monk drinking from a large stein. It is mounted in a vintage wood tongue & grove Gessoed frame. The frame is black with the inner section finished in a reflective Goldish color. Due to the age of this frame their are some areas where the gesso has blistered. The previous owner preformed some repairs on one side of the frame. The frame is strong enough to support the weight of the plaque which is about 6 lbs. The tile plaque is in great condition for its age. I could find no chips on the plaque. The colors are brilliant and the image is very pleasing. The plaque is signed by the artist in the bottom right hand corner. The frame blocks out most of his name. I am not sure of the method that the subject was rendered. It is possible that the image was applied in sections. The only flaw that I found was that if you laid the plaque on a table under bright lighting their are about 3 slight dimples above the stein. They may have formed during the manufacturing process. The plaque has the Kaestner Saxsonia markings used starting about 1929. The plaque measures 13 1/4" L X 9 3/4" W X Approximately 1/2" H. The frame measures 16 3/4"L X 13 1/2" W X 1 3/4" H. This plaque exhibits great subject matter and is a rare find and a collectors item. It will be safely packed and insured for shipping.
