The Ash Meadows Sky Ranch was located on a gravel road off of Highway 372 near the California Nevada border, just outside of Pahrump NV. It was not only supported by the Las Vegas area, but drew from the Hollywood, California crowd because of an airstrip.
Some say it was a pretty classy operation. Supposedly they specialized in S/M. It’s rumored that some of the girls had a propensity to get an occasional customer drunk and relieve them of their bankrolls. This resulted in one unhappy client opening a competing place that is now called the Cherry Patch. Then Sheri’s Ranch re-located from Coyote Springs and the Chicken Ranch came into the area from Texas. This all spelled “demise” for the Ash Meadows Sky Ranch .
This is another case of an operation that thrived while prostitution was illegal, but couldn’t compete when it became above the board. Because this place and others like it were illegal, there isn’t much documented about them. The only source of information is the old time residents of Las Vegas which are few and known to exaggerate a little to make their stories colorful.

Originally built as a motel and restaurant, the Ash Meadows Lodge, a brothel was later added. Located on an unnamed gravel road 2.5 miles from the California border, it was one of the first three brothels to be licensed by Nye County in 1958. Vickie Starr brought the brothel in 1971 after selling Vickie’s Star Ranch in Beatty. She changed the name to Ash Meadows Sky Ranch, sky coming from the brothel\'s airstrip. The ranch was one of the most impressive brothels in Nevada during the period, featuring a swimming pool, restaurant, hotel, and golf course. A few years later Nye County declined to renew the brothel license because, due to its remote location, it was costly for the medical examiner to visit weekly for the prostitutes check-ups. The brothel closed. Several scenes from the 1987 film cherry 2000 were shot at the disused brothel.
