Nicolas TrudgianAs the sun begins to sink on the late afternoon of D-Day +1,a mighty Allied aerial armada heads inland over the Normandy invasion beaches,7th June 1944. In the company of P-51s of the 354th Fighter Group, B-26Marauders from the 397th Bomb Group prepare to bomb heavily defended Germanpositions lying ahead of the Allied advance up from the beach-head.
THE SIGNATURES
Released in 1996 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of D-Day, the print is individuallynumbered and personally signed in pencil by the artist and three top P-51 MustangAces who flew combat missions on D-Day, 6 June 1944.
Captain CLAYTON GROSS -Flying throughout D-Day with the 354th FGhe finished the war with over 100 combat missions and 6 victories, including anMe262 jet
Colonel MAURICE LONG -He flew on D-Day with the 354th FG and finishedhis career with 140 combat missions and 8½ aerial victories
Major General DONALD STRAIT -Taking part in all the D-Day operations, he flew P-47s and P-51s with the361st FG, finishing the war with 122 combat missions and 13½ air victories
