This listing is for Weekly Shonen Jump 1984 No. 50. Though the 1st chapter of Dragon Ball would be included in the next issue of this magazine, this issue No. 50 included the ad pictured above with the first mainstream published images of Goku and Bulma(the only prior published images were in Toriyama's fan club newsletter). The manga would of course go on to be extremely successful and be adapted into the anime we all love.It shows some signs of use/age, such as wrinkles and creases (see pictures above of the exact book you will receive), but this is typical for these magazines since they were read rather than viewed as a collectible. I've handled a lot of Japanese manga and can guarantee this is 100% authentic.

However, since these magazines are fairly bulky and very few people perceived them to be a collectible, the vast majority were discarded and the small number that remain tend to be in pretty bad condition. Reprints exist for a few of the keys (like 1st One Piece and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) but are easily identified by differences in the back cover. Counterfeits exist (and are now very common) for 4 of the most popular/high value books: Shonen Jump 1984 No. 51 (1st chapter of Dragon Ball); Shonen Jump 1999 No. 43 (1st Naruto); Shonen Jump 1998 No. 14 (1st Hunter X Hunter); and Shonen Jump 1997 No. 34 (1st One Piece). These fakes are fairly easy to identify if you've been collecting manga for a while, but if not, you need to be careful about buying these books from a reputable source.
