Very rare historic antique ambrotype or tintype photo of a Black man wearing a pork pie top hat, bowtie, and what appears to be some kind of ceremonial or fraternal organization pin. His gaze/expression is very fascinating and makes you wonder about his background and experiences during the Reconstruction Era. This rare piece of history & collector’s item is in very great antique condition with a shiny gold gilt case that shows very little signs of wear. The case backing and sides are in very great condition as well. Such an important piece of history. I believe this is a Quarter Plate - 3 ¼" x 4 ¼" or Half Plate - 4 ¼" x 5 ½" , but not 100 percent sure. Full disclosure: I am not great with measurements, but this is certainly an historically rare find no matter the size. I know that it fits my entire hand with the edges spreading beyond it. Note: There are NO markings on the glass, and the glare seen is the reflection of my camera/phone.

I collect and preserve antique photos, particularly Black Victorian ones. I hope the next collector treasures this historic photo.
