Stratton Brothers 8" No. 10 Type 1 Owner Modified Rosewood Fully Brass Bound Level & Plumb.Type 1 (Rosebrook) have no indicators and did not have sideviews on the plumb or level compartments, nor did they have adjustment mechanisms. A previous owner added sideviews to both sides of the level compartment which were crude and installed lined vials. During the restoration, I added sideviews and brass surrounds on the level compartment but left the plumb end alone. New unlined proper vials were installed and the level reassembled. The rosewood is quite lovely and a chocolate brown with nice tight grain. The level plate has some scratches but is crisp in its markings, so no attempt was make to remove scratches.It is impressed as follows:STRATTON BROTHERSGREENFIELDMASSPATENTEDMCH 1, 1870This Level is 8"x 1-1/2" x 1"Please read the description.This level was cleaned, the sideviews mortised for brass surround trim, sanded smooth, and clear coated with lacquer, waxed and polished. The brass is cleaned from all the work done to it and will gracefully age with time. When comparing prices, remember this one is ready to go back to work or in your collection.
