This is a vintage Montblanc No.342 Black fountain pen.

The No.342 is part of Montblanc’s 34x series produced during the 1950s. This model was mainly manufactured from around 1951 to 1960 and features the compact, practical proportions characteristic of post-war Montblanc fountain pens, differing from today’s Meisterstück models.

It features a classic and understated design with a glossy black body, gold-colored clip, and cap ring. The cap top is adorned with Montblanc’s iconic white star emblem.

The pen is equipped with an ebonite feed, a feature commonly found on vintage Montblanc fountain pens from this period.

The nib size is OM (Oblique Medium). The tip is ground at an angle, giving it a distinctive writing character compared with a standard M nib.

The nib on this particular pen is also quite soft and flexible, allowing some variation in line width depending on writing pressure. The combination of the oblique OM grind and the soft nib makes the writing characteristics quite distinctive and sensitive to writing angle and the way the pen is held, especially compared with modern fountain pens with firmer nibs.

For this reason, rather than being a fountain pen that will necessarily write comfortably for everyone immediately, I recommend it for someone who is able to have the nib adjusted to suit their own writing angle if necessary, or for collection purposes. If writing performance is your priority, I recommend having the nib professionally adjusted to suit your individual writing style after purchase.

The pen uses a piston-filling mechanism. Ink is drawn directly from an ink bottle by turning the piston knob at the end of the barrel, a characteristic filling system of vintage Montblanc fountain pens.

The condition is Near Mint. Overall, there are very few signs of use, and the pen remains in very clean condition considering its age.

However, there is a small chip on the piston knob at the end of the barrel. Please carefully check the photos for its appearance and any effect it may have. As this is a vintage item, please also expect very minor signs of storage and age-related changes.
