UPDATE: Just like we figured, if we are wrong our reader will tell us and after a flood of contact emails we now can say that Jay-Z does not and has not owned a Maybach 57S and that he indeed owns a Maybach 62S.

We recently got a tip there is a Maybach 57S for sale on eBay that might be Jay-Z’s. We’ve tried to get in touch with the Beverly Hills Mercedez-Benz/Maybach dealership but they haven’t responded.
We’ve yet to dig through the cars that will be hitting the auction block this coming week at Barret-Jackson but we would not be surprised if there are a few that have some celebrity names attached to them. In the meantime here are five cars to watch as reported by Tom Jensen via Autoholics.

I really have no idea if this is a sign of a good or bad economy or maybe it’s just the fact that salesmen are getting smarter but I’m seeing more and more cars being sold with celebrity names attached to them. With that said, slapping a celebrity name on a for sale listing doesn’t always go so smooth. Lawyers get mad about the use of celebrity names to boost profits, bla bla bla and next thing you know the auction is taken down.

If you want a real moving piece of memorabilia, the first car that John Lennon purchased and drove in 1965 (after getting his license) is for sale. The blue Ferrari 330 GT has been restored and will be up for grabs on February 5, 2011 at Bonham’s Paris Sale of Motor Cars at the Grand Palais. This valuable car is said to sell for a whopping $150,000 to $220,000. Saying the phrase “I’m driving John Lennon’s first car, and it’s a Ferrari” will all be worth it.
Well if David Beckham’s Porsche being for sale wasn’t enough for you to open your wallet maybe the sweet smell of Britney Spears will. Apparently the Mercedes CLK that she traded-in for either her Maserati Gran Turismo or for her BMW drop-top is now for sale.
We’ve got no idea if this will get nearly as much hype as David Beckham’s Porsche that by the way did not sell to the dead-beat hi-bidder but nonetheless we’re sure that someone out there would love to own some Britney Spears left overs.
