Presented today is this gorgeous Jemez Pueblo Story Teller, by MaryElizabeth Toya (1934-1990), who was instrumental in bringing the Storytellermotif to Jemez Pueblo. Mary Elizabeth was famous for making some of the largestStorytellers ever made, sometimes holding over a hundred babies! In addition toteaching her 2 daughters the art, she has also taught dozens of potters who areworking today.This spectacular piece 5 inches tall, and is a Jemezinterpretation of a Tesuque Rain God. It dates from the 1960's and represents avery rare depiction of the Tesuque style Rain God.
