EXQUISITE 1801 ANTIQUE GERMAN NEEDLEWORK SILK EMBROIDERY SAMPLER :

This is a very rare and exquisite silk needlework sampler, showing delicately stitched flowers. This type of sampler was used as an example for stitching flowers on stockings and waistcoats.
It is stitched with multi colored silk thread on silk fabric. The back of the sampler is finished with striped linen cloth.
The sampler is German and is dated 1801. It is signed \'I H\'.
It measures approximately 11 1/4 x
14 1/4 inch or 28.5 x 36 cm.
The sampler is in good condition, considering its age. The grey colored flowers in the middle of the sampler have a few loose threads. There is one spot on the silk fabric near the top of these same grey flowers. The silk fabric is a little bit discolored near the right hand edge and it has one tiny hole it it, near the flower basket near the left hand edge.
