A whimsical pitcher of a bear wearing a coat with his paws inside a muff from Schafer & Vater, Thuringia, Germany, circa 1920. The company was established in Rudolstadt, Thuringia in 1890 and produced primarily decorative and novelty pieces, the most popular and collectible of them being their pitchers. Most of their pieces are unmarked but their models are widely known and recognizable. This pitcher stands 5 3/4 inches high. There is a tiny chip on the top of the mouth- I tried to show in pics.
