Antique Plate Handpainted Violets Artist Initialed & Dated 1909 impressed “TK”:

This is a beautiful and unique handpainted porcelain plate with an impressed mark TK, so it was probably made at Count Thun’s Porcelain Factory in Klosterle, Bohemia (presently Klasterec, Czech Republic). It is also initialed OMC with the year 1909 on the back. The assumption is that OMC used a blank from the porcelain factory in Bohemia, and handpainted this plate with lovely purple violets.

The back color of the plate is a light purple that fades into light green, and even a pale orange behind the the violets and leaves circling the plate. The plate is slightly scalloped with a gold trim around the edge. The back of the plate is a very glossy glazed white, and the painted front of the plate is more of a satin finish. When I hold the plate at an angle to the light, I see no wear to the plate and can see brush strokes in the leaves and flowers.

On the underside, the initials and date are on top of the glaze. I do not know who OMC was, or where they lived, but this plate looks to be a bit of European history from the early 1900’s.

The bottom unglazed edge, where the plate rests when put down, is a bit rough in places. Other than that there is not much wear to the plate that I can see. It has been well taken care of over the years, and probably only displayed. The plate is 7 & 1/2 inches in diameter and weighs about 8 ounces.
