Wrapping the Stained Glass with Copper FoilAfter the glass is carefully cut and sanded on all edges, the pieces of glass are wrapped with fine layers of copper foil. Copper foiling is the process by which the fine edges of the glass pieces are wrapped with a continuous strip of copper foil. Foiling each piece establishes a surface to which the solder will adhere. This unique technique was invented by Louis Comfort Tiffany and is still being used in making lamps today.
