Title: Rare Exquisite Hand-Painted Russian Lacquer Wood Egg Ornament - Swan Lake Ballerina, Signed by Artist Sokolova, Circa 1995
Step into a world of timeless Imperial elegance with this breathtaking, museum-quality Russian lacquer wood egg ornament. Hand-painted circa 1995, this masterwork captures the ethereal essence of classical Russian ballet, showcasing a beautifully rendered ballerina depicting Odette from Tchaikovsky’s legendary masterpiece, Swan Lake. The artist’s phenomenal attention to detail is evident in the delicate strokes of the ballerina’s pristine white tutu, the subtle grace of her extension, and the luminescent, dreamlike quality of the deep sky-blue background. Shimmering accents of gold-leaf style foliage cradle the scene, adding a layer of majestic brilliance that catches the light beautifully.
The side and reverse of the egg feature rich, traditional Russian folklike scrollwork executed in muted ice-blue and pale silver-gray tones, providing a striking contrast against a flawless, piano-black lacquer base. Every brushstroke showcases the meticulous training rooted in centuries-old Russian miniature traditions. On the reverse, the piece is proudly hand-signed in a delicate metallic script by the artist, reading Sokolova (Соколова) alongside the origin designation of Russia (Россия). In the realm of Russian lacquer miniatures, the Sokolova name represents an elite lineage of academically trained master artists, renowned for bringing theatrical and classical themes to life with unmatched precision and vibrant emotion. True to the rigorous standards of Russian lacquer arts, this authentic piece has been treated with multiple layers of translucent lacquer and hand-polished to a spectacular, high-gloss finish, resulting in an extraordinary depth of field.
Measuring approximately two and three-quarter inches in height and two inches in diameter, this ornament represents a highly collectible size and is complete with an attached, delicate pink organza hanging ribbon. It remains in immaculate vintage condition with no chips, cracks, deep scratches, or dulling to the brilliant lacquer sheen, preserving the crisp vibrancy of the original paintwork. This is a premier acquisition for discerning collectors of fine Russian arts, ballet enthusiasts, or anyone wishing to elevate their holiday or year-round décor with an authentic piece of Eastern European heritage.
