Striking vintage Japanese display doll depicting Fujimusume, the traditional “Wisteria Maiden” associated with Japanese Kabuki theater and decorative arts.This beautifully detailed figure wears an elaborate black floral brocade kimono accented in gold, cream, orange and red, with a brilliant red-and-gold obi and layered traditional garments. She wears the characteristic broad black hat associated with the Fujimusume figure and carries a trailing wisteria branch.Beautiful details include delicate painted facial features, traditional hairstyle, metallic hair ornaments, textile tassels and carefully posed hands. The reverse is especially decorative, with an impressive red-and-gold patterned obi.The doll stands approximately 16 inches tall on a glossy black display base measuring approximately 6” x 4.5”.No visible maker’s mark or label was found.A visually impressive piece for collectors of vintage Japanese dolls, Kabuki-related decorative art, traditional Japanese design or Asian decorative arts.
