Details: Original check no. 790,197 dated Nov 13, 1931 for $1.52 to Wilbur McKenzie heir of Charles Bluejacket (Loyal Shawnees), featuring official seal, printed text, and hand signature of the disbursing agent

Back text: Typed narrative explaining the claim Charles Bluejacket filed in 1866 for property losses in 1865, stating the original claim of approximately $855.00 was paid in 1930 and referencing the writer's enrollment as a Cherokee Allottee

Exact typed note on reverse reads: "The within check is in payment of a claim which was filed with the Government by Charles Bluejacket, my great grand-father in October 1866, for a loss sustained by him in 1865. Any cattle and horses and other personal property was taken from him when he lived in Shawnee Town on the Kaw River in Kansas during the Civil War. The original claim was approximately $855.00 and this amount was paid in full without interest by an act of congress of March 26, 1930, sixty five years after the loss was sustained. I am keeping this check for two reasons, first, that it is probably the last check that I will receive from the U.S.A. by reason of my enrollment as a Cherokee Allottee and second, that it shows and proves the manner in which our government can dispatch business."
