Vintage Homer Laughlin hotel/food-service china, rather than the better-known solid-color Fiesta line. Homer Laughlin produced extensive commercial dinnerware for hotels, restaurants, and institutional use, including decorated patterns.
The 12" fish dinner plateThe large plate is particularly distinctive:
White/ivory ceramic body with a broad, gently raised rim.
Approximately 12 inches across, giving it a substantial hotel/restaurant-dinner-plate feel.
The decoration is a nautical/underwater theme, centered around a small orange-gold fish with blue detailing.
Around the rim are cobalt/medium-blue brushstrokes, stylized blue foliage or seaweed, orange-gold accent strokes, and areas resembling blue water with white bubbles or pebbles.
The decoration is deliberately asymmetrical rather than a repeating geometric border, giving it a hand-painted or hand-brushed appearance.
The fish itself is charmingly stylized: orange/gold body, blue markings, a dark eye, and small reddish/orange details, almost like a little tropical fish.
The wide decorated rim leaves a large plain white center, which is typical of commercial tableware designed to frame food.
