A very attractive original World War II U.S. Navy Mark 1 fighting/utilityknife, manufactured by PAL, complete with its correct gray compositionscabbard. The blade is crisply marked RH-PAL-35 / MADE IN U.S.A., withthe reverse marked U.S.N. MARK 1. The accompanying scabbard is properlythroat-marked NORD-8114 / B.M.Co / 1/7 / VP.
This is a strong collector-grade example with excellentoverall eye appeal. The blade retains much of its original finish and showsclear, undisturbed markings. It has seen honest service use, includingsharpening, but the edge has not been excessively ground or materially altered,and the knife retains its proper profile.
The original stacked leather grip remains tight andpleasing, with the correct colored spacers visible at guard and pommel. Thealuminum pommel and guard are correct to the pattern, and the knife has thesolid, untouched appearance advanced collectors look for in an original wartimePAL Mark 1.
The scabbard is equally desirable: original gray compositionbody, intact and free of cracks noted, fitted with its gray web retainer andsnap strap. Together, the knife and scabbard form a very respectable andauthentic WWII Navy Mark 1 set.
Condition
Very good to excellent wartime condition overall, showing honest age and use.
Blade finish largely present.
Markings crisp and fully legible.
Edge sharpened, but not heavily reshaped.

Knife #2 Description
WWII USN Mark 1 PAL RH-35 Knife w/ NORD-8114 Scabbard —Sister to Knife #1
Original WWII U.S. Navy Mark 1 utility/fighting knifemanufactured by PAL, complete with its original gray composition U.S.N.MK 1 scabbard.
The blade is marked RH-[PAL]-35 / MADE IN U.S.A. onone side of the ricasso and U.S.N. / MARK 1 on the reverse. The scabbardthroat is marked U.S.N. / MK 1 on the front and NORD-8114 / B.M.Co /1/7 / VP on the rear.
This knife, identified as Knife #2, was owned by the samecollector as the companion PAL Mark 1 listed as Knife #1. Both knivesshare the same PAL RH-35 configuration and the same NORD-8114 scabbard markingpattern.
Knife #2 is the more service-worn of the two but remains asolid, complete, and attractive original example. The blade retains substantialdark finish and shows normal scratches, handling wear, and previous sharpening.The edge has not been heavily reshaped, and no major chips or structural damageare visible. The PAL and U.S.N. markings remain legible, although they arelighter than those on Knife #1.
The original stacked leather washer grip is tight andcomplete, with the correct black, yellow, and red colored spacers. The guardand aluminum pommel are intact. The pommel shows additional spotting,oxidation, and small service marks compared with Knife #1.
The original gray composition scabbard remains intact anduncracked. Its woven web hanger, retaining strap, and snap are present, withexpected age, discoloration, and oxidation. The scabbard markings remainclearly identifiable.

Comparison with Knife #1
Knife #1 is the stronger collector-grade example, withcrisper markings, better blade finish, and cleaner webbing and fittings. Knife#2 shows more honest service wear but is still a desirable and complete WWIIPAL U.S.N. Mark 1 set. The two knives have especially good historical anddisplay appeal when kept together.
