Swamp-Root Almanac Pamphlets Set of three 1908, 1914, 1922 Kilmer Company:
$55.00
This set of three Swamp-Root Almanac publications from the early 1900s provides a unique glimpse into American culture and history. Originating from the United States, these almanacs offer valuable insights into the medical practices, lifestyle, and traditions of the time. With the cover dates of 1908, 1914, and 1922, these collectible booklets serve as historical artifacts that showcase the evolution of medicine and public health during that period.Swamp-Root "medicine" was marketed for effect on kidneys. Modest alcohol content compared to competing potions.
The 1908 cover is a nice piece of vibrant art. The company - Dr. Kilmer & Co. Binghamton, NY - reused a similar designfrom year to year. Notice slight subtle differences from the 1908 to 1914 edition. The 1922 is similar but re-drawn withmodified colors.
These were obtained from Drug stores in Chautauqua County. All from my great-grand-father's collection.Free, fun reading - in the years when modest entertainment (and Almanac data) were pretty much all thata wood based craftsman could afford.Provenance can be provided to the buyer on request.
The 1908 edition is in remarkable condition considering the age. The 1914 has some obvious water stains on the cover.
The back covers are again similar, with detectable slight differences.
Contents include month-by-month Moon and Sun rise/set, positional information. Some weather forecasts (about as accurate as guesses of the era allowed.)
