From the collection of Frank D Andrews, purchase from an sale of items he donated to the Vineland Historical Society.Offered is an authentic 19th-century clipped autograph signature of Irish novelist, songwriter, and artist Samuel Lover (1797–1868). The signature is mounted on a larger sheet bearing an early handwritten annotation identifying Lover and noting that the signature originated from the Tremont House Register in Boston, Massachusetts, during his visit to the United States.
Lover was a widely read and celebrated literary figure whose works include the popular novel “Handy Andy” and numerous songs and ballads depicting Irish life and culture. He toured extensively in America during the mid-1800s, where he lectured and performed to enthusiastic audiences.
