The Meaning of the Saint Nicholas IconSaint Nicholas the Wonderworker is honored as Archbishop of Myra in Lycia and as a compassionate shepherd of his people. His traditional Life remembers his defense of the faith and his generous care for those in need.
One well-known account describes his secret provision of dowries for three impoverished sisters. Other accounts recall deliverance from danger through his prayers. These traditions express the Church’s memory of a bishop whose love of Christ bore fruit in mercy.
An icon of Saint Nicholas invites generosity without display, concern for the vulnerable, and steadfast faith. His example encourages us to make compassion part of everyday life.
