Upon closer inspection it becomes clear that the fluorite has in fact crystallized on a matrix composed of casts of druzy quartz casts after calcite! This specimen is from a famous find on a private ranch in Arizona, and specimens this large with little to no damage, well defined crystallization, AND the quartz epimorph matrix are extremely hard to come by.
