Rare 19th-Century Sèvres Biscuit Porcelain Medallion of Louise d’Orléans, Queen of the BelgiansA magnificent and historically significant 19th-century Sèvres biscuit porcelain portrait medallion depicting Louise-Marie d’Orléans (1812–1850), Queen of the Belgians, finely modeled in white relief against a pale blue ground and inscribed “LOUISE D’ORLEANS REINE DES BELGES”, with the date 1812 below.Of particular significance, an identical Sèvres portrait medallion of Louise d’Orléans is held in the collection of the Musée du Louvre, Paris (Inventory OA 2637 2) and is currently on long-term loan to the Château de Versailles. The presence of this portrait in one of the world’s foremost museum collections gives important context to the historical and artistic significance of the present example. Please see the reference images included with this listing.Another identical example is preserved at the Musée Condé, Château de Chantilly, where it forms a pair with the portrait of her husband, King Leopold I. The pair is identified as Sèvres biscuit porcelain, dated 1837 and 1838.
