ITEM OVERVIEW: Up for sale is a rare, historically significant nineteenth-century miniature brass "book" locket pendant. Produced right at the dawn of the American Civil War (circa 1860–1861), these novel militaria pocket tokens were highly prized as patriotic keepsakes and political tokens. This complete multi-page survivor features four remarkably well-preserved, gem-sized micro portraits of the most talked-about political and military figures of the era.

HISTORICAL FIGURE IDENTIFICATION:

Abraham Lincoln: Features a rare, highly sought-after BEARDLESS profile portrait. Because Lincoln famously grew his beard shortly before his March 1861 inauguration, this specific imagery anchors the production of this locket's source portraits to his legendary 1860 Presidential Campaign.

Jefferson Davis: The President of the Confederate States of America, showing his distinct chin-curtain beard and sharp cheekbones.

Union General Irvin McDowell: Famous Commander of the Army of Northeastern Virginia during the fateful First Battle of Bull Run (July 1861).

Union General John C. Frémont: The iconic Western explorer ("The Pathfinder") turned Major General, pictured in his military uniform with visible epaulets.

CONDITION REPORT:

Casing: Exceptional condition for its 160+ year age. The brass features a beautiful, rich, untouched dark original patina. We have absolutely NOT cleaned or polished this item to preserve its collector value.

Mechanism: The binding hinge is structurally sound, the individual interior portrait "pages" turn smoothly, and the side locking clasp closes firmly and holds securely.

Portraits: The interior photo inserts are intact, well-seated within their ornate gold-toned oval frames, and remain highly recognizable with expected light age-toning.
