Here we have a small silverplated teapot engraved in large letters "Rangely Lake House" and marked on the base "Mfd. & Plated/By/Reed & Barton/Taunton, Mass./No. 875/2 Portion/Pat. Feb, 15, 1898". This measures 5" tall to the top of the cover and 4-1/2" in diameter at the widest part of the body and has a wooden handle. Condition is very good with typical wear but no dents or heavy scratches.The Rangely Lake House was on Rangely Lake in Maine and was built in 1877. It partnered with the narrow-gauge Sandy River & Rangely Lakes Railroad that went to Farmington, Maine and was in existence until 1958, though it changed names to the Rangely Lakes Hotel in 1928.
I love hotel pieces and this is absolutely one of my favorites. Has to date from around 1900-a very early piece as these go and very scarce-I can't find a record of another piece marked from this hotel anywhere. Recently found in Dallas, Texas of all places. Honestly I won't cry if this doesn't sell but I did promise my wife I was only buying it so I could find it another home that would cherish it...I would like to see it return to Maine!
