R. HOLLAND DUELL — ORIGINAL AUTOGRAPHOffered is an original handwritten autograph of R. Holland Duell (1824–1891), also known as Rodolphus/Robert Holland Duell, a New York attorney, Republican politician, four-term U.S. Congressman, and U.S. Commissioner of Patents.Duell served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1859–1863 and again from 1871–1875, representing New York. He was subsequently appointed U.S. Commissioner of Patents by President Ulysses S. Grant, serving from 1875–1876.The front bears a handwritten “R. Holland Duell” signature. The reverse has a handwritten identification of Rodolphus/Robert Holland Duell.CONDITION:Please examine all photographs carefully. The autograph is on a small clipped piece of period paper that has been trimmed into a tag-like shape. The paper shows age-related toning, wear and discoloration.
