2026 Pewter Lid Design: Betty Feldl and the Teufelsrad

The embossed pewter lid on the 2026 Official Munich Oktoberfest Stein portrays Betty Feldl (1908-2002), associated with Feldl’s famous Devil’s Wheel, or Teufelsrad, at Oktoberfest.

The Teufelsrad is a century-old amusement ride and longtime favorite at Munich’s annual Oktoberfest. Introduced to the Wiesn in 1908, the attraction later came under operation by the Feldl family following World War II.

Participants sit or lie on a large horizontal wooden disc while it spins at increasing speeds. Centrifugal force, padded balls, lassos and other playful challenges are used to knock riders from the disc into the padded surrounding area.

The attraction is also famous as a spectator event. Audiences gather around the spinning platform while a commentator provides humorous play-by-play commentary throughout the action.

The History And Traditions Of Munich Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest began in Munich in 1810 as a public celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese. The original festivities included horse races held on the Theresienwiese, the grounds still associated with Oktoberfest today.

Over time, the celebration grew into one of the world’s largest folk festivals, with traditions including the ceremonial tapping of the first keg, Bavarian parades, live music, traditional clothing and large beer tents operated by Munich breweries.
