Wow! This is absolutely romantic; willow motifs are some of the best when it comes to Kagai/Geisha pieces in my opinion and this one is rendered beautifully. Really delicious hand painting on this and the stencil work that has been used is really a treat too. We have gorgeous and highly sought after butterfly kamon. Great composition to her art with the flowing water as well. Decisions on what to sell and what to keep are getting more difficult for me, and I'm telling you I'm listing some great silk treats.This piece is probably from the mid 1920s; crest is a little larger than average so we're straddling the end of the Taisho and into the early Showa period. This piece is a true tea green; not a brown piece with a green cast. She does lean olive, however and this is 100% a non-arsenic green piece.
There is some staining to the piece; this is a Geisha's hikizuri and she shows good signs of a lot of use though she is fairly well cared for compared to some wrecks I've handled. I think this one was probably used post-war some; the hiyoku and date eri feel a little newer to me, however they are a high-quality real shibori. The hems are pretty clean on this girl, some smudges but nothing really to write home about. General sleeve smudges, significant stain on the hem in the art. She has one moth bite; but has NO degradation; she has been yanked and tugged on. Her lining could use some repairs; it has separated from the emon nuki in sleeves to reinforce the body of the kimono, but these are usually not too kind to the lining when pieces have heavy use. There are no friction damages to the body of this piece and despite these faults, this is a really high tier art piece nonetheless and GREEN.
Silk. No Odors. No tears or rips to the body. One minor moth bite, some seam separation around the sleeves from use; fairly minor repair.
Measurements are listed below. If you're looking for a flat measurement to wear as a robe or cardigan; please multiple the backwidth by 2 and that will give you your flat pit to pit measurement to some extent beyond this; the kimono is adjustable; but I get a plethora of people looking for a robe and don't understand that traditional kimono is not like a western garment in having chest-waist-hip measurements; it is all straight up and down.
