ABOUT THIS SANTA
The teddy bear gets as much attention as Santa himself. The little bear is carved in the round, with small ears, a muzzle and legs that dangle below his hand. Blue plaid patches with painted stitches and a green polka-dot bow tie make it look mended and loved for years. The painting comes in three layers. White stars and gold folds cover the green coat and cap. Where the coat opens, a cream robe shows gold scrollwork and a gold cord tied in a bow with tassels. Gold lattice and dotted garlands run along the hem, and even the staff is painted with grain lines like a rough branch. A green Father Christmas like this one calls to mind old Victorian Christmas cards.
