An original 10 x 8 in black-and-white press still from the 1989 Tri-Star Pictures film Glory, numbered #11 and issued loose with a printed studio caption, showing Morgan Freeman as Sergeant Major John Rawlins. The glossy photograph fills the sheet above a white caption band at the foot. Freeman is pictured in Union Army uniform with a forage cap and sergeant major's chevrons on his left sleeve, looking directly to camera, with Cary Elwes and other uniformed soldiers behind him among bare winter trees. The printed caption reads: "Rawlins (Morgan Freeman) is a natural leader who rises to the rank of sergeant major in the Union Army in 'GLORY,' a Freddie Fields Production of an Edward Zwick Film presented by Tri-Star Pictures. Freddie Fields produced and Edward Zwick directed the film from a screenplay by Kevin Jarre." A small studio credit and rights line runs beneath it, with the still number #11 at the lower right. The reverse is plain white and unprinted.Condition & sizePre-owned in Very Good condition. The photograph has clearly been handled and stored but presents very well. The image area is clean and sharp with good contrast and no creasing, tears or surface scratches. The white borders are bright, with only very light handling marks and faint softening at the extreme corners and edges. The caption text is crisp and fully legible. The plain reverse carries a faint light surface mark towards the lower left and no writing, stamps or adhesive residue. Not signed. Supplied loose and unframed, exactly as pictured. The film won three Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Denzel Washington, and remains one of the most highly regarded American Civil War films.
