CLEMENT A. EVANS PROVIDES AN AUTOGRAPH DURING LEE'S SURRENDER AT APPOMATTOX

(1833-1911) Confederate brigadier general who saw action at Second Manassas, Antietam, and Fredericksburg, later an influential minister and author. A historic signed piece. Evans' full signature in black ink on a 3.5 x 1.75 in. card, adding his rank 'Brig Genl Comdg' and, most crucially, the place and date on which he executes the above: 'Hd Qrs Gordon's Division Appommattox [sic] C[ourt] H[ouse] Va April 9, 1865' - the day of Robert E. Lee's surrender to Ulysses S. Grant.

Mildly toned, with mounting remnants on the verso, otherwise in fine overall condition.
