This is a beautiful antique Royal Worcester porcelain lay-down scent bottle, dating to the 1880s Victorian period.Made in England, the bottle has an elegant curved and tapering form, beautifully decorated with delicate hand-painted floral sprays in shades of blue, violet, yellow and green. Fine gold gilt detailing surrounds the neck and shoulders, with further gilt accents complementing the floral decoration.The bottle bears a Royal Worcester crowned factory mark, and its unusual small lay-down form is characteristic of scent bottles produced by Worcester during the late 19th century.
Originally intended to hold perfume or scent, the bottle measures approximately 8.5cm in length and 2.5cm at its widest point. The original stopper is no longer present.
The bottle remains very attractive for its age, with age-related surface wear and rubbing/loss to areas of the gilding and decoration, together with small marks and imperfections consistent with its considerable age.
