This handsome Milliner's hat stretcher which dates from the early 1900's sits on a wooden base that is fitted with a Reslaw Hats registered design name plate and also with a hat sizer chart. Reslaw hats were produced by Paul Walser & Co who were a top milliner in London. This mechanical hat sizer has a large metal handle which when turned opens and closes the wooden hat section to adjust the size. It has a wonderful rich patina and is a particularly nice example. The handle and opening/closing mechanism operates smoothly with no noise.This type of wooden stretcher was originally used to manufacture, size and stretch hats but today they make wonderful display pieces either on their own or for displaying hats.
