Magnificent 14” German Renaissance Revival Schenkkrug / Lidded Serving Pitcher – GarmischAn exceptional large-scale German ceramic pitcher featuring extraordinarily rich raised decoration, bold Old World colors and an ornate hinged metal lid.Standing approximately 14 inches tall, this impressive piece has a substantial baluster-form body decorated in deep cobalt blue, ivory, green, terracotta and gilt-toned accents. The surface is covered with elaborate molded and hand-finished ornamentation, including pierced-look floral medallions, scrolling foliage, geometric panels and a dramatic bearded Renaissance-style figural mask beneath the pouring spout.The upper rim is inscribed “Garmisch,” referencing the historic Bavarian town of Garmisch, Germany.A large sculptural ceramic handle supports the beautifully embossed hinged metal lid with decorative thumb lift, completing the classic historicist German appearance.The overall form and decoration are characteristic of elaborate wares historically produced in Germany’s renowned Westerwald pottery region, including examples associated with makers such as Marzi & Remy.
