Antique Full Plate Tintype Outdoor House Picket Fence Family Street View 1860s:

Full-plate tintype, outdoor view: a white clapboard house behind tall shade trees and a long picket fence on a dirt street, with about five people posed along the fence.

A man in a hat and dark coat stands at the gate with a small child; another man leans on the fence; two figures in light clothing stand inside the yard. Outdoor tintypes of houses and streets are far scarcer than studio portraits, and this one is the largest standard size.

Size: full plate, approx. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 in (see ruler photo). Unmounted, uncased plate.

Date: tintype era, c. 1860s-1880s. Place and sitters unidentified.

Condition: the image is clear through the middle with good detail in the house, fence and figures. Emulsion loss and dark spots along the bottom edge and in the corners, some flaking at the left edge. The back is bare iron with rust streaks and a large area of lacquer loss. Flat, with no bends or creases.
