This is a substantial, well-documented family archive rather than an album of unidentified snapshots. Many photographs have handwritten names, some dates, relationships, locations and descriptions directly on the original scrapbook pages.
Highlights include:
Early family photographs dating to at least 1906; identified multi-generation family portraits; rural and farm scenes; horses and harvest photographs; children and early studio portraits; occupational and construction scenes; WWII-era military photographs; Columbus, Ohio Adjutant General Depot photographs; a U.S. Army Signal Corps photograph; photographs sent home from the Philippines; military portraits; Pennsylvania and Ohio local-history scenes; vintage automobiles; family travel photographs; Deep Creek Lake; Great Smoky Mountains; Tallulah Gorge; Jones Beach; wedding photographs and original newspaper wedding announcement; school and social photographs; and numerous other identified family and community images.
The album follows members of the same extended family over several generations and contains extensive handwritten genealogy and identification throughout.
More than 270 photographs remain in this scrapbook.
Condition: The original front cover is detached from the binding but is present and included. Interior scrapbook pages show varying age-related wear, including edge wear, occasional tears and staining. Individual photographs vary in condition with normal age-related wear. The album has not been restored.
The photographs remain in their original scrapbook arrangement, preserving the handwritten identifications and family context.
An excellent archive for collectors of antique and vintage photography, genealogy, WWII history, Pennsylvania and Ohio history, Americana, family history and vernacular photography.
