Original Vintage 1993 Emerald Suite Space Needle Restaurant Menu Sky City Seattle WashingtonThe Space Needle's revolving restaurant opened with the Seattle World's Fair on April 21, 1962 as the Eye of the Needle, managed by Western Hotels; architect John Graham Jr. adapted turntable technology from a revolving bar he had built in Hawaii, making it the first free-standing rotating restaurant in the world. After the Wright family took over the operation in 1979, the dining level was rebuilt as two rooms - a 180-seat family dining room and a 40-seat gourmet restaurant called the Emerald Suite, with a menu built on local, seasonal products. The Emerald Suite served from 1980 through 1999, and in 2000 a $20 million renovation replaced both rooms with SkyCity.
It measures 14.5" x 9" closed and 18" x 14.5" open.
