Authentic hand-signed letter by Hubert H. Humphrey, written on official United States Senate letterhead and dated November 17, 1964, from St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.

The letter is addressed to Palmer Hoyt, Editor of the Denver Post, and thanks him for his support during the recent political campaign. Humphrey expresses personal appreciation for Hoyt’s efforts and credits such support with the Democratic Party’s electoral success. He also notes that he is sending, under separate cover, a Humphrey picture book as a token of gratitude.

Signed in ink “Hubert H. Humphrey”, this letter dates to a pivotal moment in American political history, shortly after the 1964 election and during Humphrey’s tenure as a leading Democratic statesman, just one year before becoming Vice President of the United States under Lyndon B. Johnson.

Historical significance: Hubert H. Humphrey was a U.S. Senator from Minnesota, a central figure in the Civil Rights Movement, the 1964 Democratic presidential campaign, and later served as Vice President (1965–1969).
