For Sale is an Awesome 1962 John F. Kennedy PSA Type 1 Original Photo! This outstanding 1962 photograph captures President John F. Kennedy arriving at the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 12, 1962, during an important inspection tour of America’s rapidly expanding space program. Kennedy is shown stepping away from his vehicle in a dark suit and sunglasses, smiling as members of his security detail and other officials surround him. The Kennedy Library records his McDonnell Aircraft visit that afternoon as part of a broader tour of American space facilities.

The timing of the photograph is particularly significant. Earlier that same day, Kennedy delivered his famous Rice University address reaffirming the national goal of landing Americans on the Moon before the decade’s end. He then traveled to St. Louis, where McDonnell played a central role in the emerging human-spaceflight program. The company had built NASA’s Mercury spacecraft and, after NASA approved Project Gemini in December 1961, received the contract to build the new two-person Gemini spacecraft as well. Gemini would ultimately bridge the gap between Mercury and Apollo by developing critical techniques needed for the eventual lunar missions.

The Shot is 10x8in and is Encapsulated and Authenticated by PSA as a Type 1 Original Photo! What makes this photograph so compelling is that it captures Kennedy at the center of America’s space effort while much of that history was still being created. In September 1962, the first Gemini mission was still nearly two years away, and the first Moon landing was almost seven years in the future. Yet Kennedy was personally visiting the facilities and contractors responsible for turning those ambitions into working spacecraft. With the President smiling beside his motorcade upon arrival at McDonnell, the photograph preserves a striking moment connecting JFK, Mercury, Gemini and the developing path toward Apollo.
