Designed by Thomas F. McManus and built by Arthur D. Story in Essex, Massachusetts, the Henry Ford was launched in 1922 specifically to defend American fishing pride in the legendary International Fishermen's Cup races against Nova Scotia's fabled champion, the Bluenose. Commanded by master Gloucester skipper Captain Clayton Morrissey, the Henry Ford was celebrated as one of the fastest and most elegant wooden working schooners ever built for the treacherous North Atlantic Grand Banks trade.

The Schooner in Motion: The Henry Ford knifes through ocean water on a starboard tack, heeling under wind with its complete suit of sails deployed: jib, jumbo, staysail, gaff foresail, main topsail, and the colossal gaff mainsail displaying racing number "7".
Crew on the Weather Rail: Over a dozen Gloucester fishermen and crewmen in flat caps, oilskins, and wool sweaters line the windward rail and deck, watching the trim of the sheets.
Marine Atmosphere: The fast shutter speed captures water spray peeling from the sharp cutwater, intricate standing wire and running rope rigging, and nuanced light breaking through heavy storm clouds over the sea.
Format: Heavy antique silver gelatin 4x5 glass plate negative, exposed directly in a press camera in October 1922.

Condition:Very Good to Excellent antique condition. Heavy glass plate is structurally sound with no cracks, fractures, or perimeter breaks. The silver gelatin emulsion is remarkably clean, sharp, and stable throughout, capturing pinpoint clarity across the sail stitching, halyards, and wave chop. Displays only minor authentic edge silvering and faint handling wear strictly along the extreme outer borders outside the primary image area. Accompanied by the original period kraft morgue filing sleeve and handwritten insert.
