1920s Merchants Biscuit Co TINDECO Glass Counter Display Box Pat’d 1924:
$349.99
An unusually scarce surviving Merchants Biscuit Co. commercial counter display. Very few comparable examples appear in online sale, museum, or marketplace records. The Merchants Biscuit Company was a Denver, Colorado bakery concern established in the early 20th century. History Colorado records that the company began in a building at 842 Walnut Street under Clinton A. Bowman, A. H. Bridgeman, and George Benkelman. Bowman was serving as president and general manager of the company by March 1906.
In 1916, the company added the trade name “Supreme” to its products. By 1927, Merchants Biscuit had become one of the regional divisions of the United Biscuit Company of America, a national combination of established biscuit and cracker manufacturers. History Colorado notes that the company later became Bowman Biscuit Company Supreme Bakers, and the broader United Biscuit organization ultimately adopted the Keebler name in 1966.
This display box is therefore part of the early commercial history of a regional biscuit maker that eventually became connected to one of the best-known names in American packaged cookies and crackers. The box itself is stamped “PAT’D APRIL 15 1924 / TINDECO,” placing its manufacture no earlier than 1924 and fitting neatly within the period when Merchants Biscuit was actively marketing its products under the Supreme name and expanding its distribution.Very good antique condition for a piece approximately 100 years old. The wooden body is solid and remains in excellent condition with no major structural damage observed. The original glass is intact with no cracks or breaks. The embossed metal display frame and lid show light age-related wear, minor surface discoloration, and scattered patina consistent with use and age. The hinge operates properly, and the original-style formed wire retaining frame remains in place behind the four notches securing the glass. The piece is sturdy, complete, and displays beautifully. Please review all photographs closely for exact condition.10.5" × 10.5" × 4.5" 3.7 lb.
