[RARE COLLECTOR] Antique 1936 The Baby Empire Portable Field Typewriter SN#1278:

Rare 1936 British army field typewriter that’s been serviced to decent working order. I left the patina, dings, and scuffs as is in order to preserve the history of this actual war machine.
This is a historic piece of machinery which was actually used during the war and was found in the United Kingdom. This typewriter does work but it can be very finicky and therefore if you're looking for a no hassle "turn key" machine, this isn't for you. However, if you're looking to expand your typewriter collection, this is addition.
PRODUCT NOTES:

• Working Condition: Works, but finicky.
• Basic service performed:
• Vacuum dust.
• Basic cleaning of the machine.
• Lubricate essential moving parts.
• Segment has been flushed so keys don’t stick and have been aligned. If some keys do stick, put a little denatured alcohol in the slot where the key hits the segment.
• Platen cleaned and rolls as it should.
• The paper bar that holds down the paper is known to be very thin and flimsy on these models. On this particular one, it’s not as tight and therefore it doesn’t hold down the paper as well which causes printing of letters to not be fully visible
• Carriage moves as it should.
• Bell works.
• Left shift height is different from the Right shift height and needs adjustment.
• The teeth for the right ribbon spool doesn't properly catch and thus has a hard time advancing the ribbon. The Left one does work fine.
• Cosmetic Condition: Great Overall
• Some minor scratches consistent with its age and usage.
• What’s Included:
• New ribbon will be installed.
• Case in fair overall condition. There are some scratches, stains, and worn fabric consistent with its age and use. Leather handle is worn.

All my typewriters are serviced to bring it up to working order. They’ve been cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted for optimal functionality. I try to mitigate the amount of cleaning materials used during in order to preserve the life and longevity of each machine.

• Cleaning
• Dust, ink, and grime are removed as much as possible.
• A soft brush and compressed air clear out debris from the type bars and chassis.
• Platen (rubber roller) is cleaned with a mild solvent to help restore grip.
• Harsh chemicals are avoided to protect metal and rubber.
• Lubrication
• Moving parts like the carriage rails, type bar pivots, and shift mechanism are lightly lubricated with typewriter-specific oil.
• Adjustments
• Gunk making type bars sticky is removed.
• Type bars are aligned.
• Carriage tension is checked.
• Keys are adjusted when out of alignment.

SHIPPING NOTE:

Shipments are all packed with bubble wrap and paper to ensure package is tightly secured to mitigate any damage during delivery.
