This is an original Imperial Japanese military award certificate issued for service during the Taisho 3-4 Campaign (1914-1915), Japan’s participation in World War I.
The certificate was awarded to:
Army First-Class Medical Orderly Shigekichi Tsuruoka
The document states that, under the provisions of the Taisho 3-4 Campaign Medal Ordinance, the recipient was officially awarded the campaign medal on:
November 7, 1915 (Taisho 4)
The certificate also bears the names of senior officials of the Decorations Bureau, including:
Sanetada Ojimachi
(Chief of the Decorations Bureau)
and
Yoshinobu Fujii
(Decorations Bureau Secretary)

Historical Background – The Siege of Tsingtao
In 1914, Japan entered World War I under the Anglo-Japanese Alliance and declared war on Germany.
One of Japan’s principal military operations was the attack on the German-controlled fortress city of Tsingtao (Qingdao) in China’s Shandong Peninsula.
Japanese Army and Navy forces jointly besieged the city and captured it after a major military campaign.
The Siege of Tsingtao remains one of the most important and best-known military actions undertaken by Japan during World War I.
