Joe Ben, Jr. is a widely respected and highly collectible Navajo sand painter, born and raised in Shiprock, New Mexico. He learned the traditional art form from his father as a child and began taking part in Navajo ceremonies. Unlike traditional sand paintings, which are ephemeral and destroyed after a ceremony, Ben focuses on creating permanent, mounted works that showcase deeply held spiritual values to the wider world.
