Striking vintage hand-carved Chinese wood figure depicting Shou Xing, also known as Shou Lao, the traditional God of Longevity.
Shou Lao is traditionally represented as a wise elderly man with an unusually high forehead, flowing beard and staff—symbols closely associated with longevity and good fortune in Chinese decorative art.
This substantial carving has a deep reddish-brown polished finish with excellent dimensional detail throughout the face, beard, layered robes, staff and carved base. Decorative symbols are carved into the back of the robe, giving the figure interest from every angle.
Approximate measurements:• Height: 12"• Base width: approximately 4"• Weight: approximately 2 lb 9 oz
Vintage condition with gentle age-related surface wear. There are scattered marks, small edge chips/losses around the base and a tight age crack/separation visible along one side. The figure remains impressive and displays beautifully.
No maker's signature or identifying mark was found.
