Vintage Antique Long Stem Tengri Turkish Meerschaum Pipe 15" – Hand-Carved Figural Design, Never Smoked**This impressive 15-inch antique Turkish Meerschaum pipe features an intricate and highly detailed hand-carved "bearded gentleman," or "Ottoman gentleman,", showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship for which traditional Turkish Meerschaum pipes are renowned.
Last year, I consulted a pipe expert who estimated the pipe to be **at least 55 to 65 years old**. Before examining any markings, the expert immediately identified it as a Turkish Meerschaum piece based on its material, carving style, and construction. Upon further inspection, the interior label confirmed this assessment with the marking **"Made in Turkey."**
I acquired the pipe approximately 26 years ago from an elderly gentleman who was already over 80 years old at the time. He told me that he had personally commissioned the pipe to be hand-carved in Turkey before immigrating to the United States approximately 40 years earlier. However, due to his advanced age, he could not recall exactly how many years before immigrating the pipe had been made. It may have been commissioned only a few years before his move, or it could have been in his possession for considerably longer.
While the pipe's complete history cannot be established with absolute certainty, the owner's account, the confirmed Turkish origin, and the expert's assessment that the pipe is at least 65 years old all support the conclusion that this is a genuine vintage Meerschaum pipe with substantial age and authentic provenance.
Remarkably, the pipe remains in **mint condition**. It has **never been smoked, never used**, and has spent its entire life carefully stored in its original case. The pipe itself requires only a light cleaning to remove minor some age yellowing spots from long-term storage.
The original case is included and has protected the pipe well over the decades. The case does show some age-related wear and would benefit from minor restoration or repair, but it remains an important part of the pipe's history and presentation.
Overall, this is an exceptional collector’s piece—a large, beautifully hand-carved Turkish meerschaum pipe with authentic vintage character. Examples of this size, quality, and condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly those that have never been smoked or used. With its impressive 15-inch length and intricate, highly detailed carving, comparable pieces are typically sold in the $350 to $550 range and also what the Pipe expert told me , and in some cases even higher depending on provenance and craftsmanship.
