Vintage 1964 Roman Missal Altar Edition — Benziger Brothers
A beautiful and exceptionally well-preserved 1964 Altar Edition of the Roman Missal (Missale Romanum), published by Benziger Brothers of New York.
This substantial altar-size volume measures approximately 13" x 9" and contains the traditional Latin liturgical text along with approved English translations. Published during the transitional period surrounding the Second Vatican Council, this edition is an interesting piece of Catholic and liturgical history.
Bibliographic Title:
Missale Romanum ex decreto Sacrosancti Concilii Tridentini restitutum, Summorum Pontificum cura recognitum, cum versionibus lingua Anglica exaratis et a coetu episcoporum civitatum foederatarum Americae Septentrionalis rite approbatis actis ab Apostolica Sede confirmatis.
The book is particularly impressive for its overall condition and completeness, making it an appealing example for collectors of Catholic books, liturgical history, or vintage ecclesiastical materials.
CONDITION:
• Tabs: All faux-leather index tabs are present and remain in excellent condition — an especially nice feature for a book of this age.
• Pages: The interior is exceptionally clean and well preserved, with no rips, tears, or significant staining observed.
• Ribbon Markers: Includes the original multi-colored fabric ribbon markers in purple, red, white and green.
• Cover: Heavy black textured cover with a blind-stamped cross design and gold lettering on the spine. There is some light, age-appropriate surface/fade wear from storage, but the cover remains attractive and the binding is tight and structurally sound.
Overall, this is an exceptionally clean and complete example of the 1964 Benziger Brothers Altar Edition, especially considering its age and the presence of all of the original tabs and ribbon markers.
A wonderful addition to a collection of Catholic books, vintage liturgical materials, or 20th-century religious history.
