A 4.5x2.5" vintage photo from a huge collection of 1940's plane prints that we acquired from the estate of an aviation buff (and pilot) named Gene Mutter who lived in Southern California.

Early WW1 Vickers F.B.9 airplane in flight line, showing the British two seat pusher biplane with its crew seated in the open cockpit, photographed on a grass airfield in Europe during the First World War and printed by Aeroplane Photo Supply, Toronto from the original negative in the 1940s for postwar collectors of historic military aircraft.

The Vickers F.B.9 was an evolution of the earlier F.B.5 “Gunbus,” one of the first aircraft designed specifically as a fighter, seeing action with the Royal Flying Corps in 1915 and 1916 before being replaced by more advanced tractor types. WW1 aviation images of the F.B.9 are much scarcer than later war fighters, making this compact 1940s collector print an appealing, affordable way to own a genuine piece of early fighter aircraft history - add it to your cart before another aviation enthusiast does.

Back carries an Aeroplane Photo Supply, Toronto copyright stamp with a catalog number and price, indicating a commercial reprint from an earlier World War 1 negative. Surface, tone, and typography are consistent with small-format aviation enthusiast prints produced circa 1940s. Because it was made long after the original WW1 image but still from the original negative, this is best classified as a Type 2 photograph, printed c1940s.
