Authentic Pre-WWII USS California (BB-44) Battleship Photograph – Published by "Our Navy" Photo, Brooklyn, N.Y.Up for sale is a compelling, original pre-World War II sepia-toned photograph of the Tennessee-class battleship USS California (BB-44) shown at rest on the water. This piece features the ship's distinct, early-service lattice cage masts and deck silhouette prior to its extensive wartime reconstruction following the historic attack on Pearl Harbor. [1]Historical Provenance:
The reverse of the backing board features a crisp, authentic blue ink studio stamp from "Our Navy" Photo, located at the historic 1 Hanson Place, Brooklyn, N.Y.. Our Navy was a prominent civilian publication written by and for U.S. Navy sailors during the early-to-mid 20th century. [1, 2]Condition Details:
  • Photograph: Excellent vintage contrast with clean detailing of the ship's rigging and superstructure. Shows some honest age toning, light silvering, and minor spot foxing surface wear consistent with an original pre-war print.
  • Frame: Housed in a handsome, period-appropriate dark wooden frame featuring a rustic rope-twist molded edge. The frame displays authentic surface scuffs, corner distressing, and a weathered patina that gives it great character. [1]
  • Glass: PLEASE NOTE: This listing does NOT include glass. The photograph sits open within the frame, allowing the textures of the pre-war photographic paper to show clearly.
  • Display Ready: Features an intact, period-correct metal loop hanger securely fastened to the backboard top center , ready to add to any military, naval history, or Americana display.
Please review the high-resolution listing photos carefully to verify the measurements and visual condition before purchasing. Ships promptly and securely packaged to protect the frame corners. Related Items:
