VINTAGE CHINESE GURI / TIXI-STYLE BLACK & RED LACQUER BOX — BRASS/BRONZE BODY — BLUE ENAMEL INTERIOR — 3"Unusual and highly decorative Chinese Guri/Tixi-style round lidded box, approximately 3 inches in diameter, featuring dramatic carved black-and-red lacquer relief decoration and a brilliant cobalt-blue enamel interior.
The exterior has a rich red, Cinnabar-style ground beneath elaborate raised black scrolling and floral ornament, producing the characteristic high-contrast appearance associated with Guri/Tixi-style black-and-red carved lacquerware.
What makes this example particularly interesting is its apparent metal construction. The exposed areas around the lower edge, foot/base and interior rim appear to be brass or bronze, rather than a conventional solid wooden lacquer box.
The fitted lid is covered with dimensional ornamental relief, while the sides carry continuous scrolling decoration.
Inside is a beautiful deep cobalt-blue enamel finish, providing a dramatic contrast to the red, black and metal exterior.

Good vintage condition with age-related wear and patina.
There is some rubbing, surface wear and minor loss/wear to portions of the raised decoration and metal surfaces. The cobalt-blue enamel interior remains particularly vibrant and attractive.

A NOTE ABOUT IDENTIFICATIONThis box appears consistent with the Chinese Guri/Tixi decorative lacquer tradition, in which contrasting layers of black and red create the distinctive carved/relief pattern.
Because the piece is unmarked and its exact construction and age cannot be established with certainty, it is being offered as a vintage Chinese Guri/Tixi-style piece, rather than being represented as a specific dynasty or period example.
